WATER HALL GAME

The Search For Common Ground in their project called ” BANA DUKINE” in collaboration with OLPC (One Laptop Per Child project) developed a game called sfcg game. The game is about to teach students how to resolve conflict peacefully.

This game is divided into 3 parts:

1. part1: the little lion fetches water and provide water equally to all animals.For this part, if the animal is thirsty comes across the water hall and his drop of water decreases up to 4 (maximum is 5). The work for little lion is provide a drop of water to this animal.

2.  part2: the time of conflict. This happened when two animals get across the water hall and then start fighting by exchanging bad words

3.  part3: resolution of conflicts. this part, the little lion has 3 suggestions to resolve the conflict, depending on the answer, the player got max (20: when the conflict is resolved peacefully, 10: when the answer that not resolve totally the conflict and -10: when your answer causes the conflict).

To evaluate if this game will help students or not, SFCG and OLPC MINEDUC conducted a test at 20 schools. This selection were based on choosing 2 schools in a District and 2 Districts per Province.

At each school, they were working with 3 teachers (at least one female in) and 20 students. 10 students from P4 (5 girls and 5 boys) and 10 from P5 (5 girls and 5 boys)

To be able to do evaluation:

1. working with teachers

• We were explaining them the general idea of the game, show them how it is played and let them play
• Let them follow how students play the game
• Ask them questions reflecting on what they think students learned from the game

2. working with students

• They had to ask pre-test questions to see their level on how they do understand the conflict (the meaning, the way it can occur and how it can be resolved)
• We were explaining them the general idea of the game, show them how it is played and let them play
• finally answer post-test questions to see after playing the game if their level of understanding the conflict is increased and if this will help them in future to resolve conflicts.

The test showed that the game is real helpful for students in their daily life because it teaches them how to behave during the conflict and to resolve the conflict peacefully.
